Saudi Arabia: Free the 4

In Saudi Arabia, women have suffered greatly under the male guardianship system, making decisions including those affecting their personal medical care require the permission of their male guardian. Depending on the guardian, women could also require permission for marriage and divorce, travel, education, employment and opening a bank account. Women have been imprisoned to this system including the physical locking of women away in houses simply at the request and demand of the male guardian. A system claiming to be designed for the protection of women has served to strip women of any rights in Saudi Arabia and imprison them to not only their country but to male guardians who do not always carry their best interest but rather their own. Driving a car in Saudi Arabia for a women remains illegal as this would be a great sign of independence.

Princesses Sahar, Jawaher, Hala and Maha daughter’s of the now deceased King Abdullah have been forcefully locked away for 14 years in the Jeddah royal compound. They are deprived of their very basic needs and their basic rights. After all this time and the death of their father these women struggle day after day to understand how anyone could commit such a heinous act in locking away 4 innocent women without reason. There was never a charge against them nor a trial just a forced decision made by their male guardian to lock 4 innocent women away indefinitely.

Someone must answer for the justification of taking the freedom of 4 innocent women, under international law indefinite detention without charge or trial is a grave violation. In Saudi Arabia women can be beaten and completely cut off without explanation just simply at the orders of an angry male guardian who is allowed under oppressive law to willfully abuse mentally, physically and emotionally any woman under his guardianship. These laws represent a very archaic structure and are an inhumane way to treat any human being whether they are male or female. The International Community must demand reform for all women in Saudi Arabia beginning with the release of 4 innocent victims of an angry king.

Saudi Arabia basis many of its decisions on virtue and righteous or that in which reflects high moral standards but there is no morality or honor in stealing the freedom of any human being. Innocent women have had  over a decade of their lives stolen from them forced to live in solitude in an environment that has deteriorated leaving them with mold, rodents, and bugs without ever doing a single thing to deserve such a cruel punishment. No human being should be forced to endure an arbitrary arrest and detention because they were born the female gender. These women must be immediately released from this cruel and inhumane punishment.
