Two women have been arrested in the US state of Georgia for locking their children in cages

An eight year old girl and eleven year old boy, both with special needs, were found living in a Georgia home in makeshift cages on Thursday.

Thirty four year old Stephanie Stone and 49 year old Wanda Redfern were arrested and charged with cruelty to children and false imprisonment.

Investigators found two “cages” placed in a bedroom. The cages were beds with the eleven year old boy found living inside the second cage. Both children appeared to be in relatively good condition but were taken into custody by the state Department of Family and Children’s Services for medical attention.

Authorities said there is clear  evidence that the children had been kept in those cages since at least June when State welfare investigators opened a case on the family but closed it shortly after.

No bond was immediately set for the two women.
