Thirty nine year old, Ukrainian filmmaker, Oleg Sentsov, has been sentenced to twenty years in prison by a Russian military court for plotting terrorist acts in Crimea.
Sentsov was arrested in May 2014 during a protest against Russia’s seizure of the Ukrainian peninsula. He adamantly denies the charges against him.
Alexander Kolchenko, a Crimea activist, was also tried with Sentsov and sentenced to ten years in prison.
Both defendants sang the Ukrainian national anthem in the military court after the verdict was read.
