Turkish anti-terror police detain two Vice News journalists

Security sources in Turkey on Friday said that Turkish anti-terror police detained two British journalist from Vice News for reporting from the predominantly Kurdish southeast without government accreditation.

 

An official from the Diyarbakir governor’s office confirmed that the journalists were under police custody.

 

Jake Hanrahan and Philip Pendlebury were detained in the Baglar district of Diyarbakir province, where they were filming clashes between Turkish security forces and Kurdish militants.

 

Security sources reported that the two journalists and their turkish translator were working with the the Kurdistan Workers’ Party or the PKK.

 

Vice News is reportedly working closely with the relevant authorities to secure their immediate release.
