Forty seven year old, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Darren H. Goforth, was shot and killed “execution style” at a Houston Chevron gas station after pumping gas on Friday night.
The gunman walked up behind Goforth and for no apparent reason executed him. When Goforth fell to the ground the gunman stood over him and fired more rounds into his body. Goforth died at the scene.
According to authorities, the gunman fled the scene in a red Ford Range Rover. Police say that the motive remains unknown, adding Goforth had investigated an accident thirty minutes prior to his murder but were unable to verify if there was any connection between the two incidents.
Goforth, a ten veteran of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, leaves behind a wife and two children.
According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, the murder of Deputy Darren H. Goforth marks the twenty third officer to be killed in the line of duty.
A suspect was taken into custody Saturday morning. Police have not released the identity of the man.
Police are seeking the public’s help for any information on the murder of Darren H. Goforth. They no longer have a suspect in custody at this time.
