At least thirty eight girls were killed in a car accident while traveling to a traditional festival in Swaziland.
Trucks carrying dozens of girls collided near the town of Matsapha on Swaziland’s major highway.
Thirty eight girls were pronounced dead at the scene and over twenty others were injured.
Thousands of women and girls travel across the country to be apart of the eight day festival, the Umhlanga Reed Dance at the king’s royal residence.
According to local media reports, three trucks were involved with Friday’s accident and that many of the girls were tossed out of the back of the trucks due to the force of the accident and run over.
King Mswati III said that there would be an investigation into the crash and promised to compensate the families.
