Pakistani police reported that Ghulam Abbas, a key witness in the murder of human rights activist, Sabeen Mahmud, was gunned down in the Korangi area by masked men on motorcycles.
Abbas was a part time driver for Mahmud who was killed in April while on her way home with her mother from an event addressing the human rights of the Baluchistan people.
Police have not arrested any suspects in the murder of Mahmud.
Abbas was sitting in the back seat of the car when Mahmud was attacked while she was driving. He had identified a key suspect in her case.
Pakistani officials say that the murder of Abbas is clearly a targeted killing that highlights the need to better protect witnesses.
