Police in a Chicago suburb, Darien city, say that they are investigating a hate crime against cab driver, Inderjit Singh Mukker, an Indian-American Sikh man.
Late on Tuesday, Mukker was on his way to a grocery store and a man yelled racially charged hate speech at him. He pulled over his car to let the person pass, but the driver pulled his car over and got out of his vehicle.
Chicago police did not give any details about the attack.
The New York based Sikh Coalition said that, “The assailant then reached into the car and repeatedly punched Mukker in the face, causing him to lose consciousness, bleed profusely and suffer a fractured cheekbone and a laceration to his cheek,” adding that the man allegedly called Mukker a “terrorist” and told him to “go back to your country, Bin Laden!”
Mukker, who is a US national, was taken to a Hinsdale hospital where he received six stitches.
Police said, that no charges have been filed in the attack, adding that the suspect is at a local hospital for an unknown reason.
Authorities say that they are investigating this attack as a hate crime.
