US elementary school gives fifth graders a Ku Klux Klan Homework Assignment

A South Carolina father was in shock after his fifth grade son brought home a homework assignment themed after the Ku Klux Klan.

The homework assignment that was given to the boy at Clinton Elementary School involved creating a wanted poster for a Ku Klux Klan member.

Social studies students were asked to sketch what a person in the KKK probably looks like, add three reasons as to why they are a “bad guy” and a made up quote by a person alive today showing what they would have said about them.

David O’Shields, the Laurens County School District Superintendent, said that the assignment fulfills the state requirement for schools to teach students that the KKK is a hate-group that promotes violence against African Americans.

Eric Robinson, the father of the fifth grader, told Fox Carolina that, “It’s okay to teach kids about hate groups, but to me she went too far with it”.

School officials have decided that the students will not have to complete the assignment.
