Chinese state media praised the UK chancellor George Osborne for ignoring human rights issues during his recent visit to the country.

Activist urged Osborne to speak about human rights in China but he instead spoke about trade between the two nations.

China’s Global Times reported that Osborne’s, “keeping of a modest manner is the correct attitude for a Foreign Minister visiting China to seek business opportunities,” and that western people believe their officials should behave like a master of human rights showing their superiority over China.

Osborne was the first British minister to visit to Xinjiang province which houses the country’s Uighur Muslim minority, a group that has faced marginalization and abuse.
