New York couple arrested after allegedly using massage parlors for sex trafficking

A New York couple is facing charges of human trafficking after police said that they forced workers to provide illegal sex services.

Zhaowei Yin and his wife Shuwen Ai operate several spas from Queens to Nassau and Suffolk counties. Authorities said that they advertised in Chinese-language newspapers seeking vulnerable immigrants to work as massage therapists and forced them to perform sexual services.

District Attorney Madeline Singas told reporters that the workers “were threatened and forced to sleep in the massage parlor. One was never paid, one had wages deducted.”

The couple has been charged with sex trafficking and promoting prostitution.

Both husband and wife has denied the charges and said they are merely hard working immigrants from China.
