At least twenty six bodies have been recovered in Guatemala after a mudslide hit a village near the capital. Rescue workers said hundreds of people are still missing.
Heavy rains forced boulders and mud on top of houses on Thursday in the village of El Cambray Dos.
Residents said that family members trapped underneath rubble were sending text messages asking help.
Makeshift shelters were erected to help survivors and at least thirty six people were taken to hospitals.
Rescue workers reported that a number of children were killed in the mudslide and believe more are still trapped.
Authorities believe as many as six hundred people could still be missing.
