After a knife attack in Jerusalem that has killed two Israelis and wounded three others, including a toddler Israeli authorities have taken the unprecedented step of closing east Jerusalem’s Old City to all Palestinians who do not live, work or study there.
Nineteen year old Mohanned Hallabi, a Palestinian law student, after stabbing the Israeli citizens grabbed a handgun from a victim and opened fired into the crowd.
Witnesses reported hearing onlookers of Arab descent laughing and making jokes while people were being stabbed. One witness overheard an Israeli citizen laying on the ground being told to just “die”.
Images on social media showed an Israeli citizen running with an injured toddler in his arms in search of emergency medical help for the child.
Hallabi was shot and killed by Israeli police at the scene of the attacks on Saturday evening.
Three thousand five hundred police officers have been deployed in the Old City that will remain closed to Palestinians for two days.
