Police in Guinea shoot one protester in pre-election violence

Witnesses reported police in Guinea open fired on protesters on Saturday killing at least one demonstrator.

 

A local hospital said that at least three people were killed and fifty others injured in pre-election violence since Thursday.

 

On Friday violent protests between the Union for the Democratic Forces of Guinea party and Conde’s Rally of the Guinean People Rainbow Party supporters are said to have resulted in the injuries of thirty three people.

 

Mohammed Ibn Chambas, the head of the United Nations West Africa office has called for calm on Saturday.
