Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian sentenced in Iran; both the verdict and sentence remain unknown

The semi-official student news agency, ISNA, reported on Sunday that an Iranian court has handed down a verdict in the trial of jailed Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian.

The verdict and sentence was not publicly announced and remains unknown.

Rezaian was detained along with his wife in July 2014. While Yeganeh Salehi was released, Rezaian has been detained for over four hundred days.

Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei a spokesman for the ISNA said regarding Rezaian, “This person has been sentenced, but I don’t know the details of the verdict”.

Rezaian’s defense attorney has twenty days under Iranian law to appeal any verdict handed down by the revolutionary court. She would have to know what that verdict was in order to pursue an appeal.
