On Sunday, Mayor Basilio Juracan was attacked and beaten by an angry mob and then set on fire in Concepcion.
The residents of the small Guatemalan town believe that Juracan was responsible for an attack that killed two girls and injured five others.
After Juracan defeated Lorenzo Sequec in the election for mayor, Sequec accused Juracan of wrongdoing with the town’s finances.
Unidentified gunmen on Sunday stepped out of their vehicle and open fired on a car belonging to Sequec killing his two teenage daughters.
Juracan was later dragged out of his home, beaten and set on fire.
When police arrived Juracan was already dead.
