Indonesian police reported that one man was killed on Tuesday after violence erupted when hundreds of armed men burnt a church to the ground in the city of Aceh.
More than seven hundred men razed a Christian church in the conservative Islamic province of Aceh.
Police in Aceh said that after burning the church the mob tried to attack another church but the church members were ready to stop them.
One man was shot in the head and killed and four others were injured by rocks thrown during the confrontation.
Clashes between Muslim and Christian residents began last week after a Muslim youth group demanded the government rid the province of the Christian churches because they claimed that they had been built illegally without permits.
The government agreed to the Muslim youth demands but when they did not act fast enough, residents took matters into their own hands.
