After being caught with homemade wine in his vehicle a seventy four year old grandfather could face at least three hundred and fifty lashes in Saudi Arabia. A punishment his family fears will kill him.
Karl Andree, a former oil executive who has lived in Saudi Arabia for twenty five years, has already served one year in jail as punishment for breaking the country’s alcohol laws.
Andree is said to suffer from cancer and severe asthma. Family members describe him as a frail old man who could not withstand the brutal punishment of being lashed.
Andree’s family told the BBC news that they are pleading with Britain to intervene.
In a statement released on Tuesday a Foreign Office spokesman said, “We are actively seeking his release as soon as possible”.
