On Tuesday Russian authorities prevented the sister of a jailed Ukrainian pilot accused of murder standing trial from entering the country in order to testify in her defense.
Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko faces up to twenty years in prison in a controversial case which accuses her of murdering two Russian reporters.
Savchenko’s sister Vera was the main witness for the defense.
On Facebook Vera wrote, “A guard on the Russian border informed me that I am banned from entering the Russian Federation until 2020”.
Mark Feygin, Savchenko’s lawyer posted on Twitter, “Nadiya Savchenko has now been deprived of her right to a defense”.
