On Tuesday Argentinian transgender rights activist, Diana Sacayán was found stabbed to death inside of her Buenos Aires apartment.
Authorities said that her bloodied body was discovered tied up to her bed after the apartment superintendent saw her front door left open and went in to check on her.
Sacayán was the director of the Argentine Anti-Discrimination Liberation Movement and a senior member of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association. She also worked as a journalist for Argentina’s National Institute Against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism.
In recent weeks Argentina overwhelmingly passed legislation that requires the government to set aside one percent of its jobs for transgender people. Sacayán spearheaded those efforts.
