A twenty one year old transgender woman was shot dead on Thursday outside of a Maryland shopping center marking the twenty first transgender person to be killed since the beginning of 2015.
Zella Ziona was shot in her upper torso and found in an alley that separates two Maryland shopping centers.
Police said they have not identified the attacker or the motive in her murder.
Investigators said that they are working around the clock for any leads.
Local media reports, including a police press release described Ziona as a male despite the fact that she identifies as a woman even showing a purse at the scene of the crime.
Eighteen of the twenty one transgender women murdered since the beginning of this year have been transgender woman of color.
