On Sunday, an Afghan asylum seeker living in Australia after setting himself on fire during during a video call with refugee advocates over fears of being sent back to a detention center.
Thirty year old, Khodayar Amini,doused his body in gasoline and set himself on fire. Refugee advocates reportedly called the police after the man threatened to take his own life.
Police reported that they found a burnt body in Dandenong but that they were unable to confirm the identity.
The Refugee Rights Action Network said in a statement to reporters that there have been two confirmed suicides in Perth alone and one suspicious death and that all of these deaths were Hazara asylum seekers who were either detained or on bridging visas.
Police said the death of Amini is not being treated as suspicious.
