New York man strangles mother and hides her body in a motel for seven weeks

A New York man has been arrested after authorities said that he strangled his mother and then kept her remains in a Pleasant Valley motel for seven weeks before moving her body to South Carolina.

Forty eight year old, Charles Cole faces charges of second-degree murder in the death of his mother seventy six year old Betty Cole.

Police said that Charles’s wife, forty year old, Ronalda Cole assisted her husband with transporting and disposing of Betty’s body and is facing a charge of tampering with physical evidence.

Authorities believe that Charles strangled his mother on August 16 at the Pleasant Valley Motel where they were said to have lived. Police said that Charles kept his mother’s body inside the motel for seven weeks before stuffing her into a plastic bin and heading to South Carolina.

Betty’s remains were left off an interstate in the small South Carolina town of Lodge.

Motel workers said that they were frequently in and out of the room doing maintenance and never saw Betty’s body.
