Iranian-American businessman detained in Iran

An Iranian-American businessman has been detained by Iranian security forces while visiting family in Tehran.


Siamak Namazi was reportedly detained in mid October and was barred from leaving the country in July.


Namazi is said to currently being held in solitary confinement in Evin prison.


Local sources said that Namazi was not in Iran conducting business and that the circumstances surrounding his arrest are very vague and what they described as “secretive”.


The head of strategic planning for Crescent Petroleum, Namazi lives in Dubai. He has during points in his career been critical of both the United States and European nations over sanctions that blocked medicine from reaching Iranian citizens.


Namazi is the fourth Iranian-American currently detained in Iran.
