While on the ground wounded South African police kicked and shot to death a robbery suspect on a sidewalk last month in Krugersdorp.
Video footage of the brutal use of deadly force by South African police was posted on South Africa’s Sunday Times newspaper YouTube account.
Khulekani Mpanza, the man seen in the video is said to have open fired on police. Mpanza then is seen dropping a pistol as he falls to the ground after being shot the first time.
Ongoing police brutality incidents have plagued South Africa, in 2014 Khuthazile Mbendu was tortured and murdered by law enforcement and in 2013 Mido Macia, a Mozambican taxi driver, was found dead in a holding cell at the Daveyton Police Station after being tied up and dragged behind a police van.
The African News Agency reported that General Lesetja Mothiba said that any police officers who acted unlawfully will be prosecuted.
