Thirty four year old, Dovid Katz, a volunteer for Brooklyn Jewish ambulance service Hatzalah, was stabbed in the back on Tuesday while walking through Crown Heights.
Katz was cared for at the scene by his colleagues and later transported to the Kings County Hospital. Doctors report that he is in stable condition.
The attacker was unseen by Katz, he was quickly approached and stabbed from behind and the attacker fled the scene.
Police said that they do not know the motive of the attack at this time but that there is an ongoing investigation.
Activist said that this is a time for Jewish people to stay extremely vigilant. The violence in Israel raises concern for many Jewish people, particularly Orthodox Jews as several said they tend to be targeted most aggressively in attacks.
