Mustard gas confirmed in fighting in Syria

Mustard gas was confirmed to have been used in the town of Marea in the northern province of Aleppo, Syria on August 21 by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons but they are unsure who used it.

OPCW told reporters that, “We have determined the facts, but we have not determined who was responsible,” adding that, “It is very likely that the effects of sulfur mustard resulted in the death of a baby”.

Dozens of people were affected by the chemical attack during fighting between moderate opposition rebels and the Islamic State group.

Civilians reported “yellow gas” when mortar rounds hit their homes.
