Ethiopian officials said that over 730,000 refugees could go hungry if an estimated fifty five million dollars in food aid is not raised by the end of this year.
The deputy director of refugee affairs, Ayalew Awoke, told reporters that twenty million dollars donated by the United States will be all used by the end December and that unless unless aid comes in the country will face “a major crisis”.
Ethiopia hosts Africa’s largest refugee population. Conflict in neighboring South Sudan has further strained the country’s ability to feed millions of displaced people.
The country has appealed for at least five hundred and ninety six million just to feed its own population.
