Journalist and human rights activist arrested in Egypt

Well known journalist and human rights activist, Hossam Bahgat, was arrested in Egypt on Sunday after being questioned by the military over a report he published regarding a trial of former army officers.

Military intelligence has accused Bahgat of publishing false information in a report he wrote in October about twenty six officers he said had been convicted by a military court for allegedly plotting a coup.

Bahgat is the founder of the human rights organization, the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights and regularly writes for the publication, Mada Masr.

Sources said that after Bahgat was questioned, arrested and transferred to the military prosecutor.
