Angolan court charges seventeen activists for reading a book

Seventeen activists were charged by an Angolan court on Monday for meeting to talk about a book the group read that teaches about nonviolent resistance to repressive governments.

Police arrested the group in June after they were caught reading the book “Dictatorship to Democracy”.

The group was charged with forging passports, acts of rebellion and planning civil disobedience in the capital after sitting in jail for  over five months.
