Russia confirmed on Tuesday that a homemade bomb brought down the Russian passenger jet over the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt that took the lives of two hundred and twenty four people.
The head of the Federal Security Service, Alexander Bortnikov, said, “We can say definitely that this was a terrorist act”.
This announcement from Russian authorities is the first clear statement from the country that Metrojet Airbus A321 was brought down by a terrorists.
While the Islamic State group had taken responsibility for the downing of the plane, Russian officials said that they can not say with certainty that the Islamic State was responsible.
Russia has offered a fifty million dollar reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest and capture of those who carried out the attack.
Local television reported that President Vladimir Putin vowed to hunt these terrorists down anywhere they may be saying that, “We will find them in any place on the planet and will punish them”.
