The arrest of two prominent Turkish journalists draws heavy protests

Roughly two thousand people gathered to protest on Friday over the arrest of two prominent journalists facing charges of espionage and terrorist propaganda.


On Thursday a Turkish court ordered the arrest of editor-in-chief of the Cumhuriyet newspaper Can Dundar and reporter Erdem Gul over a video report they published showing the the state intelligence agency shipping weapons into Syria.


Demonstrators in Istanbul accused President Erdogan of collaborating with the Islamic State group.


The video footage, which was released in May, showed Turkish police opening crates of weapons and ammunition that were headed for Syria on the back of state security agency trucks.
