The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Russian airstrikes on a marketplace in the Idlib province killed an estimated forty people.
Images that surfaced on social media showed several dead bodies buried in rubble, including children.
The Observatory counted four children killed in its initial reports but added that this toll will rise as airstrikes hit a densely populated area which houses families.
Witnesses said that at the time of the airstrikes several civilians and vendors were doing business in the marketplace when they heard sound of the planes approach then airstrikes and finally silence.
Residence of the Idlib province reported that after the airstrikes hit children ran through the streets screaming for their parents and the bodies of several civilians were scattered throughout the area.
