Protests erupt in Ecuador over lifting presidential term limits

Violent protests in Ecuador erupted after Congress voted overwhelmingly to lift presidential term limits.


Demonstrators attack police officers with homemade rocket, clubs and spears.


After nine hours of debate and protesters filling the streets in several Ecuadorian cities, legislatures voted 100-8 in favor of the constitutional amendments.


Protesters demanding the government put the proposal to a popular vote told reporters that they are living in a dictatorship.


Organizers of the protest said more than twenty people were arrested during demonstrations.
