Twenty one year old, Nadia Murad Basee, a Yazidi woman captured by the Islamic State group last year, pleaded with the United Nations Security Council to destroy the terrorist group that raped, tortured, and sold her into sexual slavery.
Basee told the council, “Rape was used to destroy women and girls and to guarantee that these women could never lead a normal life again,” adding that the “Islamic State has made Yazidi women into flesh to be trafficked in”.
Basee was abducted last year from her village in Iraq and transported to Mosul by bus where thousands of Yazidi women and children were exchanged by militants as gifts. Basee said that she was given to a man that forced her to serve as part of his military faction and humiliated her daily, including with beatings.
After several attempts to flee the terrorist group, Basee eventually escaped and is now living in Germany but not before witnessing her brothers and most of the men in her village killed by the Islamic State group.
Basee told the council that after one of her attempts to escape, she was put naked into a room with Islamic State guards and then they proceeded to commit their crime against her until she fainted.
