Russian court jails blogger to five years in a Siberian prison

A Russian court sentenced blogger, Vadim Tyumentsev, to five years in a Siberian prison after being accused of  “inciting hatred and extremism” for criticizing Russian intervention in Ukraine.

 

According to authorities, Tyumentsev also accused them of corruption and incompetence.

 

The ruling against Tyumentsev happened on December 30 in a court in Tomsk, at which time, he was also banned from using the internet for an additional three years.

 

According to human rights activists Tyumentsev posted videos on a social media account that led to his arrest and “outrageous” conviction.
