Authorities reported that the body of a five year Pennsylvania boy with autism who disappeared on New Year’s Eve was found on Saturday in a canal.
Jayliel Vega Batista’s body was removed from the Lehigh Canal, only a quarter of a mile from his parent’s Allentown home.
Police said that foul play is not suspected in the child’s death, but that the incident is still under investigation.
Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim said that an autopsy scheduled for Monday would determine when Jayliel entered the water and whether he died before or after entering the canal.
Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski said, “It’s a sad day for our city,” “Please, please continue to pray for the family and support them”.
