A University of North Texas student died after being shot on New Year’s Eve while serving her friends as the designated driver for the evening’s events.
Sara Mutschlechner was driving a car along with her friends when a black SUV pulled up next to their vehicle. According to Denton police an exchange of words said to be “peaceful” at first escalated to much more as derogatory comments were made towards the girls.
A person in the SUV open fired on the girls and Mutschlechner lost control and crashed into an electrical pole.
Mutschlechner was found by police lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to her head. She was transported to the hospital and placed on life support but died on January 1.
Police said that the investigation is still ongoing adding that no one has been taken into custody.
