Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Tuesday proposed a new plan directed at increasing autism screening, treatment and research including faster screening for minority children during a stop in Sioux City, Iowa.
Clinton said, “Too many American families are staying up at night worrying about their family members, especially children, who are living with autism,” adding, “There is more we can do”.
The new plan will push states to require private insurers to cover autism services, also expanding employment and housing opportunities for autistic people.
Clinton also plans to extend resources and both private and public partnerships that would ensure a better and more effective post-graduation transition plan that would create job opportunities for students with autism.
Hillary Clinton has been one of the few presidential candidates to actually speak about Autism in terms of proposing strategies and long term solutions for issues that affect the community as a whole.
