Violent protests in Brazil against a rise in public transport fares

Violent protests in Brazil were met with riot police firing tear gas and stun grenades to disperse the crowds demonstrating against a rise in public transport fares in Sao Paulo.

 

Local media footage showed crowds of masked young people clashing with police, demonstrators throwing rocks, burning trash, breaking windows and vandalizing banks.

 

Protesters said that inflation is Brazil’s transportation is already at more than ten percent and that there are no jobs to meet the country’s economic situation.

 

Police in Rio de Janeiro also clashed with protesters on Friday. Local media showed images of masked protesters spray painting buses and breaking their windows.
