At least twenty seven have been killed and several others injured after terrorist attacked a luxury hotel in Burkina Faso popular among foreigners. A cafe and nearby hotel were also attacked.
Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb or (AQIM) said that they carried out the attack in the Splendid Hotel in the West African state’s capital, Ouagadougou.
Authorities said that two of the attackers were woman and that they were among four terrorist killed after security forces exchanged gunfire with the group for what some witnesses reported to be at least forty minutes long.
Survivors of the attack said that terrorist went from one person to another checking to make sure victims were dead, if they moved they were immediately shot.
President Roch Kabore said that one hundred and fifty hostages were rescued.
Authorities said that shortly after the attack began, a foreign doctor and his wife were kidnapped in northern Burkina Faso. Officials say that they are unsure if this abduction was related to the hotel attack.
