Officials in Afghanistan on Monday said that a young woman from a remote part of the region had her nose cut off by her husband.
Twenty two year old, Reza Gul was attacked by her husband twenty five year old, Mohammad Khan who later fled the village.
Gul was brought to the Afghan Turk Hospital in Maymana after she had already lost a great deal of blood.
Khan and Gul live in a Taliban controlled area where human rights groups said that domestic violence is widespread and generally goes unpunished.
Images of the incident surfaced on social media causing outrage in Afghanistan. The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission said that the violent incident is a “disgrace” and demanded that the government bring the attacker to justice.
Afghanistan is said to have one of the highest rates of domestic violence in the world, even though incidents are highly under reported.
