Three pro-democracy activists in China have been jailed for “inciting subversion” according to several rights groups.
Lawyer Tang Jingling along with activists Wang Qingying and Yuan Xinting were sentenced by the Guangzhou court for prison terms ranging from three to five years.
Rights groups said that the three were jailed over distributing books that promote democracy and activism.
The three men are said to have been detained for the past eighteen months.
Several reporters at the courthouse at the time of the men’s convictions said that police attempted to stop journalists from filming and taking photos. They also said, that many people were arrested who were considered “supporters” of the three men.
