Police fire warning shots at protesters in Hong Kong

Riot police clashed with protesters in Hong Kong’s shopping district of Mong Kok demonstrating against a government crackdown on illegal food vendors.

Police fired two warning shots at protesters after using pepper spray and batons on demonstrators hurling bricks and bottles at officers.

The chief of police responding to questions about the shots fired told local reporters, “Everyone has seen what happened on television. Police were lying on the ground and injured but people kept attacking”.
