Valentine’s Day banned in parts of Pakistan

Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain and other officials have warned couples that the celebration of Valentine’s Day is an “anti-Islamic tradition”.

The president addressing a crowd of students said, “We should avoid the Valentine’s Day celebrations because it is Western,” implying that the custom could degrade the culture of the country.

Several districts in the country have openly banned the holiday calling it an “unnecessary and rude day”. One conservative newspaper cited Valentine’s Day as a “festival of obscenity”.
