China says they will protect migrant children

The Chinese government has issued new guidelines implemented to protect children whose parents have moved to cities to work.


Sixty-one million children have been left behind by migrant parents in order for the children to keep up with their education.


In 2013, several child sexual abuse cases involving migrant children shocked the nation. Now government officials say that the children’s welfare will be monitored.


According to officials, millions of migrant workers children have moved from the Chinese countryside to cities in recent decades. Many children have been left with extended family but scores have been left to live on their own.


Rural governments have been told to support these left behind children.
