The Chinese government has issued new guidelines implemented to protect children whose parents have moved to cities to work.

According to officials, millions of migrant workers children have moved from the Chinese countryside to cities in recent decades. Many children have been left with extended family but scores have been left to live on their own.
Rural governments have been told to support these left behind children.
