Police in Pakistan are searching for a twenty-nine-year-old man who shot and killed his two sisters in what officials described as honor killings on Tuesday.
Muhammad Asif murdered his two sisters twenty-two-year-old Fozia Bibi and twenty-four-year-old Suriya Bibi in the Punjab province shooting Fozia in the chest and Suriya in the waist.
Witnesses told police that Asif killed his two sisters in honor killings on the suspicion that they were having affairs.
According to authorities, Asif was previously jailed for killing his mother but was later pardoned and freed after the family “forgave” his actions. Under Pakistani law, offenses such a murder can be dropped if the families of their victims forgive them, or accept a “blood money” as an offering.
Pakistan remains one of the world’s most dangerous places for women with high domestic violence abuse rates, acid attacks and honor killings.
