Hundreds of protesters march for the release of Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko

Hundreds of protesters marched on Tuesday from Ukraine’s Defense Ministry to the Russian Embassy in Kiev to demand that Russia release Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko.

Members of Ukraine’s parliament demonstrated with protesters along with a journalist recently released after being held for over a year by Russian-backed rebels.

Savchenko, stands accused of the deaths of two Russian journalists in 2014. Russian prosecutors claim that she acted as the spotter who called in coordinates for a mortar attack that killed the two journalists and several civilians.

Savchenko remains on a hunger strike. If convicted, Savchenko could face up to twenty-five years in prison. A verdict in her case could come this week.
