Protesters clashed with Donald Trump supporters in Chicago last night completely shutting the Trump event down. Fist fights splashed across television screens with banners reading “stop Trump hate”.
Donald Trump was not at the event, he canceled a half-hour after it was suppose to begin, citing security concerns.
Protests were both inside and outside the event at the University of Illinois at Chicago shouting “We shut shit down” and “We stump Trump” and “Bernie, Bernie” while holding and waving Bernie Sanders signs.
The Trump campaign said in a statement, “Mr. Trump just arrived in Chicago, and after meeting with law enforcement, has determined that for the safety of all of the tens of thousands of people that have gathered in and around the arena, tonight’s rally will be postponed to another date,” adding, “Thank you very much for your attendance and please go in peace”.
During a CNN interview Trump said, “Until today, we’ve never had much of a problem,” adding after being asked about the “charged rhetoric” at his rallies “I don’t have regrets,” “These were very, very bad protesters. These were bad dudes. They were rough, tough guys”.
Protesters were seen being detained and forcefully carried out of the event. Police in Chicago said they arrested five people including a CBS reporter, two officers were injured, and one hit in the head with a bottle.
Chicago demonstrators said they will not tolerate Trump’s immigration policies, hatred against Muslims, racial divisions, or his bigotry.
