Car explodes in Berlin during rush hour traffic

A VW Passat station wagon blew up during rush hour traffic on Tuesday in downtown Berlin destroying the car and killing the driver.

Authorities do not believe it was a terrorist attack but rather, linked to organized crime.

A spokesman for Berlin police said, “The explosion occurred inside or on the vehicle,” adding, “Our investigators are working on the assumption that it was an explosive device that caused this”.

Police said that no one else was injured in the blast.

Authorities identified the man killed in the explosion but declined to release any information about him while there is an ongoing investigation.
